I saw God of small things

On my way to work today an incident happened that initially disturbed me but on a little introspection I found myself at ease.

I travel in a rickshaw and the main road usually has a lot of traffic, so once the rickshaw enters the IIT campus, the drivers tend to get a little excited seeing the free road and speed up. So it happened today too. As I entered the IIT campus, the rickshaw sped. There was a crow that was sitting right in the middle of the road. This is not an unusual sight as birds feel at home in the green campus. But as the rickshaw sped the crow didn’t seem to move at all. The rickshaw driver assumed that the crow is trying to play it smart and thought will eventually fly off so he kept his speed.

Well the crow didn’t move at all and the rickshaw drive tried to break within inches of the bird almost causing an accident. The road being a little wet the rickshaw skid and we thought the crow is dead. I got that funny feeling that one gets when one sees a dead being. Miraculously though the crow was still alive but still perched on the ground a little on the left of the rickshaw. It was probably a young crow, one that had fallen from the nest and not learned to fly yet.

Disturbed as I was, I thought how there was no space in this city for the underprivileged, but then may be there is a God of small things.

Nice and I am glad the crow survived! I see this when puppies cross the road or small kids streak across and I expect total shit to happen and hallelujah nothing does!
