Here’s a beautiful way in which Faiz analyzes the promises that democracy offers. He looks at the situation with his communist glasses on and (may be) mocks at the promises of the state and predicts (rather hopes) that the greater common good shall prevail.

Lazim hai ke hum bhi dekhenge
Woh din ke jis ka wada hai
Jo looh-e-azl pe likha hai

Roi ki tarah ur jaenge

Promises that you make to us,
Of the day, the hour, the moment of our victory,
The promise of the promised land,
